Behavioral Coaches Needed to Work W/ Developmentally Disabled Children (Clairemont)

    The Behavioral Coach position is responsible for the skills training of both the child and parent participants in the Group Behavior Training Program. The focus of the skills training for the children with special needs will be to teach appropriate socialization skills within a group of peers with similar training needs. These children will be 5-13 years of age and diagnosed with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder or other developmental disability. Additionally, the Behavior Coach will implement behavior intervention plans focused on decreasing disruptive and maladaptive child behaviors that interfere with successful social experiences. Following Phase I of the Group Behavior Training Program, the parents, who have received 4 weeks of training with a Parent Trainer in the classroom, will integrate into the training group for the next level of training. The Behavior Coach will work with the parent(s) to apply what they have learned about approaches for teaching new skills and managing difficult child behaviors in the group with their child. This position involves working with a training team of staff under the supervision of a Group Facilitator to coach skill acquisition for both the child and parent participants in this training group. The Behavior Coach will also be available for individual consultation with parents who need assistance with implementing teaching strategies and behavior management approaches at home in between the weekly group meetings.
     

     
    REQUIREMENTS:
     

     
    The Behavior Coach position requires at least a Bachelor of Arts degree (Master’s degree preferred) and 2 years of experience working with children with special needs, preferably children diagnosed with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, in a clinical or educational setting. This position requires knowledge of learning theory and behavioral approaches for teaching new skills and managing maladaptive child behavior. Additionally, this position requires demonstrated experience modeling and assisting parents with implement skills training or behavioral intervention plans.
     

     
    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES to include, but not limited to:
     

     
    1. Collecting frequency data for designated training goals during the STAR Specialties’ Group Training Program and providing the Group Facilitator with completed data sheets on a weekly basis.
     

     
    2. Participation in setting up program materials, putting away program materials, cleaning up program space and meeting with the Group Facilitator to summarize data and discuss client problems during program delivery.
     

     
    3. Participation in the development of each child’s Behavioral Intervention Plan and ability to implement the plan appropriately.
     

     
    4. Attendance of weekly staff meetings where behavioral intervention plans and other program issues can be reviewed and discussed.
     

     
    5. Participation in the Behavioral Curriculum Training for Behavior Coaches provided prior to assignment to the Parent/Child Group Training Program.
     

     
    6. Participation in each Phase of the child and parent group training, both on-site and in community settings that have been selected by both staff and parents, where children can practice appropriate social and adaptive behaviors.
     

     
    7. Provision of parent consultation and contact in between the weekly group training meetings to assist parents with successfully applying the behavioral strategies in the group as well as in the home environment.
     

     
    8. Participation in the completion of Behavioral Incident reports and/or Client Injury reports within 24 hours of the incident with the Group Facilitator.
     

     
    9. Familiarity and compliance with STAR Specialties’ Policies and Procedures, including requests for time off and participation in obtaining coverage during your absence.
     

     
    10. Ability to take a prominent role in the delivery of the Group Parent/ Child Training Program. Support the Group Facilitator with data collection, attendance, and implementation of the child Behavioral Intervention Plans as well as coaching and supporting the parents to successfully implement these plans.
     

     

     
    PLEASE NOTE: This is a part time position and requires 3.5-7 hours per week. This position requires after school (4:00-6:00) availability on Monday and/OR Tuesday afternoons. We are looking to fill this position immediately.
