    PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assist Trade and Industry/Automotive Technology/Auto Body/Diesel Technology instructors in the provision of materials, supplies, equipment and related technical, logistical or mechanical support within the Trade and Industry department; provide assistance to and tutor students in the Trade and Industry department; and perform a variety of duties relative to Trade and Industry.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction from the Instructional Dean, Career and Technical Education and oversight from Automotive Technology, Auto Body, and Diesel Technology faculty, oversee the operation of the Trade and Industry/Automotive Technology/Auto Body/Diesel Technology, maintain a facility of higher learning and to ensure a safe work environment. Assist the assigned automotive technology/auto body/diesel technology instructors in the provision of materials, supplies, equipment and related technical, logistical or mechanical support within Trade and Industry. Provide responsible assistance in the preparation of materials for instructors including setting up demonstrations, materials and equipment for classroom lectures and creating and distributing handouts. Provide assistance to and tutor students in the Trade and Industry department. Review student work assignments for work completed; monitor student progress and confer with instructors as needed. Administer oral, written, typing and production tests and quizzes to students; create test keys for correction purposes; run tests through scantron machines; correct, evaluate and record test results; forward results to instructors. Provide assistance to students and staff in the operation of assigned laboratory equipment; provide printed procedures and operations manuals for troubleshooting. Instruct and mentor students in the safe, correct usage of automotive technology, auto body, and diesel equipment. Repair and clean assigned equipment. Check out assigned materials to students; maintain records of needed equipment repair and student use of equipment. Perform a variety of clerical tasks supporting assigned instructors; take roll and keep student attendance records; duplicate materials and assemble notebooks and handouts; maintain accurate and confidential academic files. Respond to various questions and inquiries from students regarding grades and grading procedures; refer students to instructor regarding complex questions. Attend and participate in various staff and faculty meetings as required. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in education, automotive technology/auto body/diesel technology or a related field. Experience: Four years of full-time equivalent experience in providing instructional or tutorial assistance to students. Requires sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college.

    LICENCES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current, valid California Driver’s License required by time of appointment.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 11 months per year. Normal work schedule: Occasional night and weekend hours will be required due to department needs.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to electrical energy, noise, dust, grease, potentially hazardous chemicals, waste and infectious materials; work with machinery; maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy or moderate lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, sitting or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: The starting salary is $3,580.62 per month. Initial salary placement for all new classified unit employees is at step 1 of the corresponding salary grade on the Classified Salary Schedule. Full-time employees receive fully-paid benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents; life, disability, and long-term care insurance; and sick leave, vacation and paid holidays. Estimated value of these employer-paid benefits is approximately $23,320 annually. All full-time classified employees are enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
