Position Title: Instructor I – Sports

Starting Pay Range: $9.00 – $9.50/hour
 
Status/Hours: Part Time
 

 
Basic Assignments:
 

 
Under the supervision of the Sports Director, this position is responsible for providing leadership and basic instruction to the youth sports program participants while assisting practices and games as well as some officiating of league games. Maintain a safe program for all participants and spectators while incorporating the YMCA’s core values and Mission. Evenings and weekend shifts required.
 

 
Qualifications:
 

 
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
 
- Previous experience working with children between 3 and 14 years of age, as well as adults (both sports program participants and parents).
 
- At least 2 years experience in organized youth sports
 
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
 
- Knowledge of basic skills taught in classes and of equipment uses, including how to perform safety checks.
 
- The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities, and perform physical skills.
 
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
 

 
Major Functions:
 

 
- Teach basic sports skills, following all lesson plans and rotation schedule, including the rules and procedures of league and/or classes.
 
- Excellent customer service, communications and leadership skills.
 
- Must be able to relate well with children ages 3 to 14 years old, parents, and volunteer coaches.
 
- Ability to sufficiently supervise and interact with children and enforce safety standards.
 
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
 
- Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform job related tasks.
 
- Keep equipment in good condition and notify supervisor when equipment needs to be repaired.
