Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant – ASES

GENERAL DUTIES:
This position is directly responsible to the Program Specialist of the PrimeTime Extended School Day program. The Program Assistant is mandated to take all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security, and well being of a child enrolled in the program. Responsibilities include supervision and interaction with students on a daily basis through individual and group activities.The Program Assistant will function as the Program Specialist in her/his absence up to 2 consecutive days.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Promote a safe, positive and enriching environment for children at all times.
• Supervise the day-to-day activites of the program while maintaining ratios within contract and insurance regulations
• Assist Program Specialist in developing and implementing a diverse, creative mix of arts & crafts, sports, recreation, academic (homework assistance), and enrichment activities, that are age and interest specific for the children enrolled
• Distribute daily snack
• Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and children
• Redirect inappropriate child behavior and provide disciplinary action and notify Program Specialist when necessary
• Provide specific communications with the parents regarding their child on a daily basis
• Maintain positive and professional relationships with site staff, school personnel, visitors, and potential clients
• Ensure that designated school space is maintained in a clean and orderly manner
• Assist in maintaining positive staff relations by personal leadership and management style
• Represent program, attend site, school and community functions as requested
• Assist with electronic attendance collection, snack procedures and maintaining enrollment information
• Open/close the site as required
• Attend all ASES contract required trainings
• Attend staff and other meetings as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must pass CAPE test or have a minimum of 48 college units with a minimum of 6 units in child development, elementary education, recreation or related field
• A minimum of one-year experience working in an after school or group child care setting with elementary aged children
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Screened for TB upon hire
• Pass Fingerprint Clearance upon hire
• Provide proof of Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
• Attend agency orientation within first 30 days of hire
• Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests and hobbies, and/or arts and crafts
• Ability to relate well to children and adults
• Expressed commitment to Harmonium and its philosophies during the term of your employment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

• Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping
• Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching above, and below the shoulder
• Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds
• High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk
• Ability to work in noisy environment
• Ability to work outdoors
