Sr. Buyer/Planner (San Diego – Torrey Pines)

    The Sr. Buyer/Planner will be responsible for both planning and purchasing a variety of materials to support corporate and Sequenom Center for Molecular Medicine CLIA operations. The ideal candidate will coordinate and report on key supply chain and materials management metrics relating to procurement activities within manufacturing and CLIA laboratories to maintain proper inventory levels and support ongoing projects. The Sr. Buyer/Planner will monitor the cost, schedule and quality of assigned suppliers and serve as primary liaison for subcontractors producing OEM products.

    Responsibilities:
    • Negotiate price, terms and conditions with suppliers and participate in supplier selection. Coordinate alternative supply sources with assistance from internal departments
    • Review and initiate purchases and plan the supply of materials using the Material Management module of the SAP business system to support production and development
    • Drive supply base performance improvement by supporting the development and implementation of strategies to improve delivery, reduce lead times, and effectively manage overall procurement inventory
    • Monitor changes, modifications, and technological advances that affect the purchasing of goods and services. Work with Cost Accounting to establish and monitor standard costing of raw materials and assemblies
    • Track and execute strategies for cost reduction

    Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business or scientific discipline
    • 7 years of purchasing experience, preferably in the Biotech/Medical Device industry
    • APICS or ISM Certification in one or more of the following: CPIM; CSCP; CPM highly desired
    • Supplier development experience and demonstrated ability to negotiate cost and delivery terms on purchases of materials and services
    • Experience managing contract manufacturers specializing in electromechanical assembly and biological reagents and the ability to interpret and communicate with suppliers on raw material specifications and manufacturing drawings
    • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment. SAP experience preferred
    • Familiar with cGMP and ISO standards relating to materials
    • Proficiency in MS Office
