    Job Description:
    The University of San Diego seeks a motivated and energetic system administrator to fill a regular part-time position working with library systems. The system administrator works in a team environment taking direction from the Director, Library and Web Services. He/She will assist in maintaining all library server systems within ITS as well as hosted systems and all library applications that provide services to the entire university community on a 24/7 basis.

    He/She will assist in installing, training and troubleshooting a variety of library applications, including the integrated library system, interlibrary loan systems, and digital management and article searching products. In addition, he/she will assist in developing and maintaining the online catalog and the associated mobile site.

    This position works closely with all ITS departments and system vendors to provide the technical knowledge and expertise for daily system operations. He/She will act as a resource for and interact with the library community, and complete daily system checks, load updates, produce statistics, document system changes, assist in software upgrades, train staff on new features, and complete special projects as assigned.

    The System Administrator must learn a variety of library software and track and administer changes to configurations; additionally, he/she must be able to troubleshoot system problems, communicate with the appropriate vendors, and use a variety of diagnostic and statistical tools.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher-education
    • 2 years of system administrative experience
    • Familiarity with library system software
    • Customer service experience dealing with technical and non-technical customers
    • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work with a high level of independence and efficiency
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: flexibility and cooperativeness
    • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software package
    • Collaborative and cooperative approach to projects

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience in library systems preferably in an academic library setting
    • Experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. and OCLC software products
    • Programming experience such as VBA, PHP, jQuery, javascript, MySQL, etc.
    • Familiarity with web applications and programming, such as basic HTML, CSS and XML
    • Experience with implementing, managing, and troubleshooting technology systems and applications
    • Experience providing technology training in group or individual settings
    • Experience with database management systems
    • Knowledge of library standards, such as MARC21, LCSH, Library of Congress • Classification, authority records, AACR2, e-resource records, and metadata schema, such as EAD, Dublin Core, XML, MODS, VRA Core

    Hours: 20 hours per week; 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
