Job Description:
The Systems/Network Administrator is a member of the Operations team and are expected to:- Act as an escalation point for the Support and Orders teams on high-level engineering and troubleshooting.
- Perform advanced configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of client equipment (firewalls, custom configurations, etc.).
- Perform advanced voice configuration and troubleshooting.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of core network infrastructure and co-located services (outages, service interruptions, latency, etc.).
- Interface with vendors and carriers on high-level issues.
- Manage the NextLevel Internet core server, voice, and network infrastructure.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain core network equipment.
- Install, monitor, and maintain server infrastructure.
- Create, maintain, and test backup strategies.
- Configure and maintain monitoring systems.
- Assist with core network upgrades and installations.
- Create core network and server documentation.
- Interface with hardware vendors to receive quotes, make purchases, and give referrals.
The above list is an example of expected activities. Other activities will include, but are not limited to the following: driving within San Diego County, wearing a pager, pulling cable, and troubleshooting connectivity issues at all levels. Occasional evening, nighttime, and weekend installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting will be necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of experience including:- High-level ISP work experience
- CCNP or higher REQUIRED
- Experience in management of 24×7 on-call environments
- Linux installation and configuration
- Database management (PostgreSQL / mySQL)
- Basic shell scripting
- Excellent personal and professional skills
- Organized, thorough, and detailed
- Exceptional personal and professional integrity

- Resourceful, creative, and self-managing
- Proven oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills required to interact with customers, vendors, and all levels of staff
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Monitoring system management (OpenNMS / Nagios)
- Ticketing system management (OTRS / RT)
- Microsoft Office
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent work experience)
- IT certifications (MCSA, MCSE, A+, Network+, etc.)
- Voice over IP (VoIP) experience
- Experience with the following programs or equivalents desirable: MRTG, BIND, PowerDNS, Apache, Postfix, Bacula, Postgres, and MediaWiki
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skill level, and degrees/certifications.
